- This position will work onsite in Grand Forks, ND.
Purpose of Position
Assist UAS Faculty and Flight Operation Instructors on instruction and evaluation of student performance. Teach Avit 126 – Introduction to UAS Flight Lab, assist in development of UAS lesson planning and scenarios using Simulation software in curriculum while providing UAS instruction for Avit 126 and other UAS courses as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Pilot of UAS Program.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist UAS instructors in instructing and evaluating student performance in both face-to-face and online classes:
- Monitor student in the UAS simulators to ensure compliance with all UAS curriculum.
- Evaluate students in the simulators in both the face-to-face and online classroom.
- Grade simulation and UAS flight testing.
- Fill in for instructors during absences.
- Proctor and schedule tests and quizzes for simulations and flight exams in both the face-to-face and online classroom.
- Input flight and simulation grades into the Blackboard Learning Management System as needed.
- Assist in safely conducting UAS operations adhering to SMS principles, processes, and procedures.
- Instruct AVIT126 – Introduction to UAS Flight Lab:
- Be responsible for Flight Lab instruction for Avit 126 – Intro to UAS in both the face-to-face and online modalities.
- Open and close Flight Lab in Robin Hall daily.
- Be point-of-contact for Flight Lab issues and scheduling as needed. -
- Assist in development of UAS Simulation in curriculum while providing UAS instruction for AVIT 126 and other UAS courses as needed:
- Maintain inventory status and software updates for sUAS fleet.
- Developing and maintaining instructional tools in UAS courses to be used by UAS students and faculty.
- Building and developing simulator scenarios for face-to-face and online simulations.
- Aid students in download and set-up of cloud-based simulation software.
- Train and instruct students on use of face-to-face and online simulation software.
- Assist students throughout term on technical issues using cloud-based simulation software.
- Assist academic instructors to conduct UAS instruction and demonstrations in various courses.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Flight Instructor of UAS Program:
- Site set up for operations for all UAS aircraft (e.g. ScanEagle, Daedelus, sUAS)
- Assist in research
- Promoting a positive safety culture throughout UAS Program.
- Assist in promotion of UAS program - outreach and customer service.
- Available at scheduled times to answer student questions.
- Maintain front desk – monitoring activities and maintaining UAS presence.
- Supervisor student staff as needed.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation.
- Private Pilot Certificate with Instrument training through AVIT 221.
- ScanEagle UAS experience.
- Experience working with UAS Aircraft
- Minimum of 20 hours logged experience working with UAS simulators.
- Part 107 Remote Pilot Operator.
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in UAS Operations.
- Commercial Certificate with Instrument rating.
- FAA Certified Flight Instructor.
- Satisfactorily completed FAA Fundamentals of Instruction Exam.
- MQ1/MQ9 and or PMATS (actual/simulation) UAS Experience.
- Computer networking experience.
- Experience in photogrammetry software.
